Moordown, on Wimborne Road in north Bournemouth, has been part of the town since 1901 and feels like it: semis and bungalows, the shops of Grand Parade, Redhill Park and Redhill Common on its western side. People rarely move here for a holiday. They need to be here for a while. Mid-term let management in Moordown lets your house to them for one to six months, furnished, with the bills in one monthly price and the agreement chosen for the stay. Our mid-term let management page covers the service in full.

Homes that suit a stay of months

Almost all of Moordown is BH9. The housing that takes long stays best:

  • Three-bed semis with a drive, much of it on the Mayfield Park estate laid out around 1911 and on interwar streets, for families between homes.
  • Bungalows, for older relatives, people recovering after treatment and the carers who stay with them.
  • Two-bed flats above or near the Wimborne Road shops, for a single nurse, contractor or airport worker.

What makes the difference is practical: a drive, a washing machine and somewhere to dry clothes, a table that seats the household, a garden for children or a dog, and a spare room that can be a study.

Why people come to Moordown for months

  • Chain delays and renovations. A family whose sale completes first, or whose own house is being extended, needs somewhere near school and work.
  • Caring for a relative. Sons and daughters who come back to look after a parent for weeks or months, and want their own space close by.
  • Hospital staff. Nurses, doctors and therapists starting with University Hospitals Dorset at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, reached by bus on routes 14, 15 and 20 or a short drive along Castle Lane.
  • Airport and contract work. Staff and contractors around Bournemouth Airport, which the 737 bus serves, and site teams in north Bournemouth.
  • University staff at the Talbot Campus and Arts University Bournemouth, a short drive west.

Steady months, few changeovers

Moordown's calendar is flat, so long stays are the backbone of the year rather than a winter patch. A single household for three months replaces a dozen arrivals, and the cleaning bills and wear that came with them. Summer can still take families who want a garden for less than a seafront flat, and the gaps between long stays sell as short visits for relatives at Christmas or Easter. We set monthly rates and review the calendar daily; the pricing strategy guide explains how.

Families between homes and hospital staff look on Flexiestays first: it is Bournemouth's number one platform for winter and long stays, and Flexiestays charges only 8% on the bookings it brings. We list the house there and on Airbnb, Booking.com, Vrbo and 20+ channels.

Rules for a Moordown owner

Stays of more than 28 nights do not count towards the 70 let nights a year for business rates, so a house let mostly by the month will usually pay council tax, where BCP Council charges a 100% premium on furnished second homes. Factor that into the monthly price. The longer someone stays, the more the tenancy question matters: a guest with nowhere else to live may become an assured tenant, so we check each stay's purpose and use the right agreement. See holiday let regulations in England.

How we run it

We photograph and list the house, answer guests through one inbox with 24-hour support, check them in against an inventory and inspect during and after the stay. Cleaning, linen, gardening and repairs go to recommended local companies you pay directly, or to your own. Our Charminster Road office is a few minutes away by car.

You pay 16% commission on booking revenue and nothing while the house is empty; see our pricing and how it works. For short visits, see holiday let management in Moordown and Airbnb management in Moordown. We run long stays next door in Kinson and Winton.

Our difference

Full in summer. Earning in winter too.

Most holiday lets in Moordown go quiet from November. Ours do not have to. Alongside Airbnb, Booking.com and Vrbo, every property we manage goes out on Flexiestays, Bournemouth's number one platform for winter and long stays, where contractors, relocations, visiting families and remote workers book for weeks and months at a time.

  • Flexiestays charges only 8% on the bookings it brings
  • Winter stays of a week to several months
  • Long stays fill the gaps between summer seasons
The local market

The Moordown letting market

A northern suburb along Wimborne Road, part of Bournemouth since 1901, with Victorian cottages, interwar semis and bungalows and parades of independent shops. It is a residential market: family visits, contractors, house moves and university-related stays, with little seasonality and few holidaymakers.

Moordown is a settled suburb of interwar semis, bungalows and Victorian cottages along Wimborne Road, and its long-stay guests are mostly people whose lives are in transition nearby. A family whose sale has completed before their purchase, a son or daughter staying for months to look after a parent, a nurse who has just started at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital: each needs a furnished home with a drive, close to where they already have to be.

Moordown has buses to all of it. Routes 14, 15 and 20 run towards the hospital, frequent services run down Wimborne Road to the town centre, and the 737 goes to Bournemouth Airport.

The stock that suits is the three-bed semi with parking and the bungalow. Bungalows are the rarer prize: a step-free furnished home suits older relatives and anyone recovering from treatment, and few are available to rent by the month.

What brings guests to Moordown

  • Wimborne Road corridor. Moordown's shops line Wimborne Road, which runs south through Winton to the town centre and is a main bus route. Guests get a quiet residential base and reach the shops, the station and the beach without a car.
  • Bournemouth University and AUB. The Talbot Campus and Arts University Bournemouth at Wallisdown are a short drive or bus ride away. Parents, visiting lecturers and students between tenancies book across Winton and Moordown, mostly in term time.
  • Castle Lane, Castlepoint and the hospital. Castle Lane West starts at the top of the district, passes the Castlepoint shopping park and leads east to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, now the area's main emergency hospital with a new maternity and children's unit. That brings relocations and hospital-related stays.
  • Bournemouth Airport. The airport at Hurn is a short drive north-east, and a bus runs to it along Wimborne Road. It adds pre-flight nights and stays by people working around the airport.

Questions owners ask

Mid-term and long stay management in Moordown: questions

Who needs a furnished house in Moordown for a few months?

Mostly people already tied to north Bournemouth. Families whose house sale completed before their purchase, relatives who come to care for a parent through an illness, staff starting at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, people working around Bournemouth Airport, and contractors on projects in the north of the town. They want a whole house with parking and a garden, near family or work, and they usually know Moordown already.

Is a Moordown bungalow good for a long stay?

Often, yes. A furnished, step-free home is hard to find by the month, and it suits older relatives visiting for a long spell, people recovering after a stay in hospital, and carers living with them. List the bungalow with clear photographs of the bathroom, the entrance and the parking, and state any steps or rails. We describe access accurately so guests with mobility needs can judge it before booking.

Can buses get a long-stay guest to the hospital from Moordown?

Yes. Routes 14, 15 and 20 run from Moordown towards the Royal Bournemouth Hospital on Castle Lane East, and several routes run along Wimborne Road to the town centre. Most guests still drive, which is why a drive or off-road space matters. We give the bus routes and the driving time in the listing so staff on early or late shifts can plan.

How do I avoid a long stay becoming a tenancy I cannot end?

By checking the purpose before the stay starts. A family between homes who have already arranged their purchase, or a carer whose own home is elsewhere, is not normally making your house their only home. Someone with nowhere else to go may be, and since 1 May 2026 that could be an assured periodic tenancy without a fixed end. We ask the questions, record the answers and choose the agreement to suit. Take legal advice for your situation.

Is a chain delay a common reason for long stays in Moordown?

It is one of the most common reasons people need a furnished house for a few months in any residential suburb. When a sale completes before the onward purchase, the family needs somewhere with room for everyone, near their school and work, without signing a long tenancy. We agree a minimum period and a way to extend by a few weeks if the purchase slips, so your calendar stays predictable.

What does mid-term let management in Moordown cost?

It costs 16% of booking revenue, with no retainer and no fixed monthly charge. The one-off onboarding fee covers photographs, listings and a set-up visit and comes out of the first month's income. Cleaning, linen, gardening and repairs are paid directly to recommended local companies, or to your own. Income from each long stay is paid to you monthly, and the owner portal shows what has been booked and earned.

Lovely apartment in very close proximity to Bournemouth town centre and beach. The apartment was modern, very clean and well equipped. Onsite parking was a big bonus and once parked we didn't really need the car. We would definitely return.
